Default Idle Control Cable

I was messing with the idle control cable on my 2004 honda cbr600f4i because the idle was too low and I accidently backed the whole screw out. During this process I lost the spring that was on the end of the cable and cant find a replacement spring. The bikes is basically undrivable now because the revs keep bouncing around unpredictably. I just wondered if i could insert the idle control cable back without the spring or would that cause additional problems.

In my experience, on my model you do need the spring. When I did what you are describing it took me forever to find it but it was tucked way underneath the starter.

Do you think any spring from a hardware store would work if it fits?

Also, to install the screw back indo I just have to remove the gas tank and the air box?

If you can find one that fits it should work as long as it has the right amount of “springiness”.
I seem to remember maybe 4 or so years ago someone posting about an alternative spring they found.

im not 100% sure on your model but you shouldn’t need to remove much more than that.

I got everything installed and the bikes runs good but it idles at around 3.5. Adjusting the cable doesn't seem to change it at all

yeah, but it was a little longer than the oem spring but not does not take as much force to compress.
