Hunter. The BIG F4i Rebuild Thread (PICS! Fast internet required)

Actually....the black frame is from the production of the 01-03 F4i, then when they switched it up to the banana seat like the F4's. They changed the color to the aluminum frame/subframe/swingarm for the 04-06 bike, with 06 being the last and its most common new color scheme was yellow/black
So now that I got my subframe on. Hunter was returning back to its former glory, I could roll hunter back and forth, and the fun part, was when I was at least able to sit on hunter again, and pretend I was riding making motogp noises. So after I saved up some molah and had a decent amount of cash on me. It was time to change one most important part of the bike. The.....
FORKS

So time to go on my favorite bargaining site again, and I found these forks for $200 free shipping. Seller said they were straight, and they looked straight when I got em. Very clean also so I wasnt worried at all.

Jacking the bike up, preparing to swap

Tire/axle removed along with clip ons. Now just bare forks, loosed both triples

Old forks removed

Me and my buddy who was helping me do the swap, thought it was going to be an hour job. Just swap the forks and put everything back on. But considering how bent the forks were, it needed alot of persuasion to take off, but we finally did. We started roughly at 4pm that day. And we finished around 8ish. Which included me installing the forks backwards
then the wheel....but practice makes perfect right
New forks installed, it looks much better

But one problem. The front is still misaligned
ARGH!! I tried every trick in the book to try to align it. But to no avail. It wasnt misaligned by alot like in the crash picture, it was actually by an inch. I have to turn the handlebar slightly to the right for it to point straight. But I havent replaced the bent rim, and possibly bent axle. Along with the triples probably being bent too. But I was pressed for cash at the time and those forks did a number on me.
NOW WERE IN BUSINESS
With new forks and subframe, I was feeling alot more confident. I brought a clutch lever and other small things like the seatlock, the back piece for the tank, and other odds n ends that I could afford at the time. I was pressing forward. I was committed and I wasnt going to be stopped. It became my daily addiction to constantly check fleabay. Making best offers, losing bids, and looking like a crack addict on the computer searching for parts.
Normally my face when I nail a good deal, or win a bid:

For a while, there was no work I did on hunter, had to deal with alot of other problems at the time and I was REALLY pressed for cash at the time, my past occupation left me with very little money from time to time
After searching, I found a nice new job. Pretty easy and lots of hours soooooooooooo....You know what time it is!

After my first paycheck, I quickly got to work, NO HESITATION. Its been a few months since the crash and I couldnt wait to get back on the road. It was killing me! I needed power between these knees! it was time for the REAL rebuild! The rebuild that will bring my bike back to its former glory. SO HERE WE GO PADRES!

Now im in business, I got a new job, and I have extra money in my pocket. First thing I ordered on ebay was an entire airbox, since I lost all the screws, and also the flaps from the side. It was only $30 bucks. Then the front fairing stay which is a pita to find for the f4i without shelling out lots of dough. $70 plus. Then I brought a headlight+wireharness combo since also my front one was destroyed also. I manage to get both for $150. Only problem was it was missing the low beam bulb, so I had to buy replacement bulbs. Then the back wire harness with a best offer accepted for $35. Sorry for not taking pics of these
On top of it all, I brought a new gasket for the stator and various oem bolts. Those bolts add up in price my goodness. Then I brought oil and did the oil change where? My room
K&n filter& oil

^ It was a picture of oil I brought a while back before the crash, but same oil nonetheless from the same buyer, packaged the same.
Oil Change

When I did that oil change. I only had enough to oil in there only fill up one Styrofoam cup lol.
But after week after I got paid and some parts. Hunter looked like this

After I connected the back harness when I got it. IT PRIMES!!!! HUNTER PRIMES!!!
And First startup after the wreck
ITS ALIVE!!!

That startup, I had to feather the throttle a lil bit for it to catch, it did have a healthy crank, I think it just needed that PUSH. at this time I ran into my room where my phone was, and started videotaping. While tears were rolling down my face...MANLY TEARS
As you can see in the video, everything works. Except for the headlights. Couldnt figure out for the life of me why they werent working. I brought new bulbs and they still didnt work. I took the wire harness off and back on checking all my connections, and still no go. I skimmed through the whole wire harness front/back to look for broken wires or exposed damaged wires...Nothing. I was loosing my mind, I even made a thread here not too long ago.
https://cbrforum.com/forum/f4i-main-...ebuild-144465/
Another thing was, when hunter was on. The temperature was reading funny, and I would twist the throttle a bit and the temp would drop dramatically. After hunter got too warm, the fan didnt even attempt to turn on. So I did a bit of snooping and found out that I had broken wires from the ignition :\

Ordered a new one the same day I found out, and now all works well again
So I said forget about it for now, and I was waiting for my front fairing cowl to come in that same day. Along with my clutch lever I finally was able to get. I brought the front cowl, along with the windscreen, and air duct covers for $70 bucks lol. Aftermarket, but looks good.

Then the second start up later that day
I was so happy

Started fine, revved fine, and idled fine. The only thing I got scared of, was that there was a coolant leak. Which, was due to be not tightening the cap all the way down. So it was all good.

After a few more weeks and paychecks later, MOAR things were coming for my beloved bike.
Ordered a new integrated tail light with sequential turn signals

Company video of where I got them
Ordered a new tail fairing as well, pretty expensive. Fleabay didnt save me on that. $150
Installed with tail light

Pimp
Now to turn back into my headlights. I brought cheapo bulbs from ebay for about $15 bucks. I just wanted to know if the headlight worked before I gave the guy a negative review and asked for a refund. But im alot more optimistic then that. Plus I dont leave bad review, and I heard its a hassle to get refunds through ebay and I really didnt want to have to go through the trouble.
Popped them in, no dice. Fiddled around with the wiring again. No dice. Looked over every square inch of wiring of the main/back/front. No dice. So maybe I gave the benefit of the doubt and that it was just the bulbs since they were so cheap. So I brought HID's 10k Xentec. It was on sale for about $35 and it normally goes for like 50ish or so. Why not. Waited for them to come, and they came.

Installed them like they said. Still nothing........

So I gave up f**k it, ill buy new headlights in the future or something! I dont care anymore.
Went on ebay, and saw a guy parting out a 2005 f4i. With a
-shorty yoshi exhaust for $114 obo,
-smoke flushmounts $15 obo,
-wireharness $35obo,
-all relays $15obo
-grab rail $40obo
-Rear straight rim $60obo
-K&n filter $20obo
Also brought a new battery tray with an already cut fender in the back, I always wanted that look. So I got it for $30 bucks. All together, along with more OEM screws/bolts I got all of those things for about $300ish and the guy was nice enough to combine shipping, and also new brake pads with Castrol GT brake fluid

The guy shipped everything through Fedex. Now fedex, I have no problem with. They always either ship on time or a day earlier. Also a big plus is that they ship early in the morning, when im most likely home and gives me that room to install everything in the comfort of daylight.
Tracking Fedex....

One week later...... SUCCESS!!

They finally came, and I damn near bear hugged the fedex guy as he was walking towards the door. It was that time again

Sorry I dont have a pic/video of an unboxing
Same day, everything installed

^You can still see the flat tire in the back, I havent replaced the rim yet, and also the guy fell on the right side, so the yoshi took a hit. But really isnt that bad.
Side picture of everything installed

^OOOOOOO THATS MAH BEBEH
Testing out both turning signals the same day
Works perfect, but still the stupid headlight didnt work AFTER i even change the entire wire harness and relays. AARRGGHHHH!!!!

After I installed those parts, I couldnt wait to ride. Although with a flat tire in the back, and still a bent rim in the front. I couldnt take it. I cranked it up, warmed it up and rode around the block a couple of times. Let me tell you, bumpy/awkward ride
A week later, it was payday, and Im already scoping out ebay for things I plan to get. Listening to this.
While looking for parts, I finally decided to give it one more go with this blasted headlights before I purchase another one. Boy good thing I didnt cause after skimming all the wiring again, and studying the wire diagram I finally found the problem!
!
Snapped wires from the right controls

I realized this after I would pull in the brake lever and the brake light would sometimes activate and other times not. Then I saw the black/red wire completely seperated.
So now I had to add more items to the list of things I needed to get. So I brought both controls for $50 bucks. Then I realized my MC was pretty banged up and after bleeding the brakes, I kept getting air into my lines, although still worked in a way, I no longer liked the look of the standard MC, and decided I wanted to upgrade to the radial from the CBR 954. Mostly for the looks anywho
Oh and these were my old rear brakes

Front was almost the same.
Few days later all came through the mail. I also brought some frame sliders just in case for future references
954 Master Cylinder

With old stock MC

Installed

No clearance issues.
Bled the front brakes again

And new OES frame sliders

Now....For the moment of truth
Plugged in the knew switch control, and connected everything back together and VIOLA!
Really bright.....Maybe too bright! I dont want to blind anybody coming towards me
So im thinking of getting projectors with the cutoff line.
Then I installed the frame sliders and battery tray I got, along with other cool little rim decals and such. Also gas cap pad. Just to add a little in the bling factor.

New lever to match the other one came a few days later

Im so proud of my work so far.......

Fast Forward to Today
Couldnt no longer resist and rode hunter more around the block, then the front tire went flat. Oh well idga*
Then I ran out of gas.....okay funs over. Rolled hunter back into the house.
After playing around with my brake lever, I realized that I can compress it further sometimes, and other times its hard. WT* back to the drawing board to whats wrong
Then I realized brake fluid all over the front left rotor, look like it was sprayed, but I did a clean bled so I know it wasnt me. Then when I compress the brakes, it dripped some. So I bled em again thinking maybe I just didnt do it right and STILL same result. Heres some pictures

And on top of everything else, there was a big storm and I stumbled across this little fella while walking towards my backyard

I planned on keeping it, but then realized im terrible with animals that need certain living condition to stay alive. Im just a dog person. So I let him go after feeding it some sliced hotdogs and lettuce.
BE FREEEE

So now im in the process of waiting for my steel braided lines to come, both front and rear, along with a front rim/tire and axle. A better bleeder kit, and a front fender. And more brake fluid
Ill keep you guys posted!

i must say when i got my spiegler braided stainless steel brake lines and put some motul rbf600 in the stock master cylinder, with some new EBC HH pads, it is the best braking experience i've ever felt.
its supposedly a bad thing to have brake fluid on your pads, so you may want to research if they are shot or not. considering its two wheels.
i hope those frame sliders bend instead of cracking the frame, the best protection unfortunatly is the stator/clutch cover and the fairings, oh and your bar ends rear foot peg... etc etc.
thats my opinion of course only based on that i read how people rip their swingarm a new *** by having spools and the like.

Yeah I got my braided lines yesterday morning. They look really nice and I was finally able to replace the old ones like I always wanted to. Them leaking gave me the excuse to finally get S.S lines lol. The OES frame sliders are a popular brand, and the material seems pretty good, as though its meant to grind down on impact. Im waiting to find the color scheme side fairing of my bike on ebay. Pretty rare, I was lucky to find that tail fairing, although I paid $150 I wasnt going to let it past me. Theres a right one on ebay, but im waiting for the left to pop up somewhere.
Annndddd this is why I hate UPS again. Was suppose to get the rest of my stuff today. Never came, went on the tracking site, and it said they made an attempt at 8pm. With a house full of people! ARGH
