hey mang...read the entire thread...and try and understand how the stock cctl works vs. the APE manual tensioner...
look at this pix...
blue arrow on top shows the primary area making the noise...all have it occur from here...
blue arrow on bottom shows secondary area making noise...not all have it from here...but i think eventually all may get it from this part depending on how old the cctl is.
red arrow is the pin holding the cctl tip to the shaft. flare this out on both sides and the tip will no longer have any play...eliminating noise from this area.
look at this pix...

Hi, I read through all the great information on how to mod and install the stock CCT, and it went great! Thanks to everyone who made the info available!
I have a question since I've replaced the CCT though. I now hear a light "tictictic" that sounds like valve clatter, but I don't hear it all the time. When the noise is made, it happens at idle and follows engine speed from there. Since the noise is intermittent, I'm not sure what I'm hearing. I had an APE tensioner in place before I went back to the OEM, but I tried to re-adjust it and ended up getting it too tight. I ran the motor that way for about 30 seconds before removing that tensioner. Did I damage the actual tensioner rail (?) itself by doing that?
The bike sounds 100% better except for the tictictic. The motor has 19,000 miles on it, and to my knowledge the valves have never been checked. Looks like I was supposed to do that at 16,000 miles. Am I on the right track?
