I waited about a month. Very intimidating. No way you should be speeding until you are comfortable with your bike. I agree with krash that the interstate is safer.

First day, 200+ mi on the ride back from the bike purchase. Also I found it much easier managing it on the interstate than the sharp 90 deg turns and stop lights and opposing turning traffic inside the city... granted it was a non-busy interstate.
half of it with no license plate though since it fell off [:-]

About a week, and it was pretty bad, i had to go back to my hometown (go to college in a different city). And during my first time on the highway it started pouring, but i managed to get through it. I'm probably more comfortable on the freeway than streets.

Just so I don't seem like a crazy person, I spent a good 4-5 hours doing city driving prior to hitting the interstate at approximately midnight, so there really wasn't anybody to worry about. So the first day was a pretty easy one for the freeway. I also took the MSF class a week before hand, and was very comfortable on the motorcycle.

This is my first 600cc bike (rode 125 cc bike in my country 2 years back). Got it from dealer at 1:00 p.m. and I had mid term exam at 2.00 and had to go to lansing after exam. So straight away went for licence test, my odo was showing 5 miles when i reached license test, finished it quickly and it started raining .... went 30 mins late for exam. After exam I headed out for lansing, actually roads were dry as it didnt rain a lot and I hit 210 kmph on first day.
Dont want to boast but within first 10 miles of riding I was feeling like ..yeah.. this is my bike!

Thats funny everyone is saying its safer on the freeway and I have been avoiding the freeway for the opposite reason. I figured I have a better chance of surviving on the street. Maybe I will try it out when I go pick my bike up, its about 25 mins. if I use the freeway. I was going to take the long route. It just seems so scary[sm=helpout.gif]
