RE: How do you take your bike on LONG trips (truck / hitch / etc..)
I had an '01 Ford Sport Trac and I could fit my bike in there no problem, but with the tailgate down. Hauled it just fine. Got myself a new "whip", but it's too high off the ground to roll a bike into the bed as easily as the SportTrac, so I figure I'll just get one of those folding 2-bike ramps (hey, pull another bike why not?) to tug behind. If need be, I can put a bike in the bed as well and tow three bikes total. V-8 engine

Hey guys, I see this thread is a little old already, but thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I haul my bike about 4 hours up every race weekend on the back of a '98 GMC Sonoma using the the ratchet straps (Cycle Cynch I think they're called). I had to get my rear shocks replaced once, but they were shot before I ever put my bike on there.

Wasn't there video not to long ago of a couple of guys just lifting a bike into the back of a truck? Of course, they were steeling it and not really concerned about hurting it, but they did load it into a truck! I liked the idea of just getting a good sized backpack, and riding it. I am also curious about the effects of long rides on your tires.

krobberts, that's funny because my brother and I once lifted an old geezer of a bike (forget what it was) onto the back of my Dad's pickup. That was years ago. I have no idea how we could've done something like that! The bike was a pig!
