Default How difficult is it to replace a clutch on these bikes?

Hey guys, ive been searching around for a bike and I found one I might be able to get for a good deal but the listing says it has a weak clutch. What is involved in replacing it, how much is a new clutch (and other related components) and what else should I be worry about if it was beat on? It has 18XXX miles. Sorry for the newb questions, this would be my first bike.

A clutch should last a lot longer than 18k miles. If it needs a new oneit would make me think the bike might have been abused. Anyways a clutch isn't too hard to replace except you'll need a clutch center holder tool and/or impact driver. Not sure how much a plate setcosts but it shouldn't be more than $200.00 and take a few hours to install.

Thats what I was thinking, but its in a local auction so I feel like I could get a good deal on it. What else should I be worried about? Blow by on the engine?

I replaced mine with a socket set and ratchet. It took about an hour, and I bought a set of Kevlar race plates for $80, and it came with stiffer than stock replacement springs. If you want a set of good plates, I've still got my old set. I'd sell them for like $15. Honestly though, replacing the clutch was frighteningly easy on my 01. Just don't forget to soak the new plates in oil.

This shows you how to properly change outa clutch. I have done it and its not as hard as you think. If the bike needs a new clutch is all, and you get a good price for it. Then buy it and replace the clutch.

Ask to have them turn the engine on so you can at least hear it. If it sounds like its running strong you should be ok. Honda's are built strong as ever and can have a ton of miles on them and still run forever. There's a guy on this forum who has almost or more than a hundred thousand miles on his bike.

18K with a weak clutch...that's not a good sign. i would think it was stunted, etc...which meansdrops, crashes, long wheelies with oil not getting to all cylinders, etc...

No comment here but.......

Search around, theres guides that tell you what to look for if you suspect abuse of the bike. Sprockets, chains, fork seals, etc can reveal things you wouldn't normally suspect from what I have read. I'm not expert on what to look for, I just know there are more or less tell tale signs to watch for.
