help tensioning my chain
alright...this will make me seem like a complete squid and n00b...but:
does anyone else feel uncomfortable tensioning their own chain?
i know that mine needs to b tightened, but i dont feel ok with loosening my rear axle and tightening it up and worrying about whether its aligned properly...and then theres the worry about not tightening something enough(i dont have a torque wrench at home)...im just afraid imma really screw something up and like kill myself or ruin the bike
yes, this is my 1st bike...so i am kind of a n00b
so, wat should i do? should i just take it to the dealer and ask them to do it, or will they laugh me out of the place and then charge me $200 to do it? or am i just completely over thinking it...anyone have any advice?
(o, and its an '06 CBR600f4i)

RE: help tensioning my chain
I felt the same way until I took the bike for the 400 mile maintenance, I saw the techs working on it and its easy, after that I have done it myself always. You can do it without a torque wrench but the damn thing costs about $20-$40 and it's soooo convinient to have at home.
If you dont feel comfortable, take it to the dealer watch them doo it and you will find tat the next time you will be alot more comfortable doing it yourself.
Now the most that the dealer can charge you is for 1 hr of service runs about 30- 50 plus some mic service charge. if you have the hoda riders club it might be less. And tis would be a verry expensive. I'm guesing they would do it for less.
Mine did the 400 mi chk for $75 USD including oil change, inspection and adjusting and lubing the chain. While your at it get yourself a bottle of chain lube. It's by far the most maintenance that you will e doing yourself.

RE: help tensioning my chain
ya, i got my 600mi maintenence done at about 1000 mi(i hit 600 on a fri afternoon, so i couldnt make the appt until mon, then the appt was another week from then)...and they did the oil change and checked everything over...but it doesnt look like they adjusted the chain, it could b because its not so loose, but ive got 2155 mi on it now, and i know that it needs to get tensioned, as it is hitting the chain guard
and i already picked up the chain lube...thought its hard to lube it w/o a stand...i just spray it, roll the bike a bit, spray a little more...haha...thats my next investment, too
