Heated grips relay wiring question
Hi all, I have installed some heated grip to make my commute a bit more comfortable today:icon_chickendance:
at the moment i wired them directly to the battery however i have read up about it and brought a standard 4 pin relay(85,86,87,30) to wire it so that it won't be left on accidentally. the question is where is the best place for the relay and what wire do you guys use? I have read up here but it isn't really clear on where is the best/easiest place tap from, ignition?headlight? others? and how did you guys do it Many thanks Kit |
i had heated grips on my f3, i however did not use a relay, just wired power straight from the rear tail light(running light). But you can wire the coil for the relay to anywhere that gets switched on from the ignition, then simply run a power wire from the battery, to the NO contact on the relay, then to the grips.

Use a switch wire like the license plate light. I put a drawing in this thread:

Correct. Rather than running wires back to the battery, you can just ground to a part of the frame. Check to make sure your desired grounding spot is indeed a ground by using a multimeter to check the resistance between the point and the negative battery terminal. Closer to 0 ohms the better.

Something else to keep in mind. On the Hot wire you run from the battery, try to put your fuse as close to the battery terminal as you can. You don't want a power lead running around your bike that does't have a fuse protecting it.
