The exhaust actually is an important part of the tuning of the bike.
Without some back-pressure the air doesn't extract properly from the cylinders.

If you do migrate from a stock set-up, you will need to change the mapping of the ignition/injection
to be able to truely take advantage of it, and/or it will actually run worse. Look up the powercommander
or PC for more info on the whole voodoo-science.

Beyond the whole noise-pollution/annoyance thing, there's also the issue of
harrassment from law-enforcement. It is actually a violation of federal law to modify
the exhaust sound volume and EPA exhaust rating from OEM on a street bike,
all of the after-market is sold as "for track only". Something to think about, anyway.

You'll be fine w/ no muffler other than being a cop magnet and maybe pissing off people b/c it's so loud. I think there were a couple companies that made full exhaust for the f4i, but I don't think they're producing them anymore. Try looking on ebay or google it, I have no info on the power gains from them though.

No exhaust is bad for the valves...

+111111111111111111111 on the valves
And the aggravation from law enforcement isn't worth it PLUS the bike is losing performance without a silencer, except in the case of MotoGP bikes which are tuned to run that way.......

I really can't stand that this myth is still told over and over to people trying to learn as its completely false. Backpressure is mearly a crutch for a poorly designed exhaust system that is not properly scavenging. In a perfect world you have NO back pressure what so ever but because of the system's design there is no over scavenging of the cylinders and resulting loss of cylinder pressure.

To answer the OP's question: Im assuming you ment you have no muffler instead of no exhaust at all [which includes the headers]. If you have no headers then stop running the engine ASAP although Im sure its already damaged. If you just have no muffler then its a personal opinion. Do notice that there isen't a single race bike without a slip on attached to the headers though. Food for thought.

ok so you are admitting that on a street bike, it is not designed to run without back-pressure and can cause damage.

No offense to the op...

<Edited content - keep it civil or don't post it.>

All that does is cause unnecessary noise and bring more attention to the community as a whole... I'm sorry if this came off as ride but I just don't see the point in taking off an exhaust just because you like it loud.. Go buy a slip on, make it a Shorty, shorten the midpipe if you have to....

End rant lol
