Question Gears

I think I already know the answer to this but it's worth asking - and I'm sure someone will think I'm crazy for it after reading the whole thing.

I've changed the sprockets -1,+2 (I think that's where I am still) and the 1-3 gear acceleration is great. What I don't like is the now the RPM in the higher gears is...irritating. Currently I am running 7000rpm at 70 and it pretty much goes up 1000 for every 10mph.
Has anybody ever heard of replacing 6th gear with one that is a little more highway friendly that will bring the RPMs down? I've searched but didn't find anything which I figured since bikes just don't sell as big as cars so the demand isn't there.

In one of my cars I ran a 15% over driven 5th gear. It was still in a sweet spot so power & mpg didn't suffer. I was thinking something like 20% would make highway riding a little less loud.

I'm not aware of anyone making new gears for transmissions in motorcycles. However I'm not into racing. Since you can't change the gearing in the motorcycle without splitting the cases, it's just not a practical thing that is done. All gearing changes are done via front and rear sprocket changes, like you've done. But it's a tradeoff. You want the bottom, you lose the top.

That's what I figured. I may just go back to stock gearing, I don't go to the track so launching isn't a big concern.

Thanks!

Well, maybe a compromise. Keep the -1 and go back to stock on the rear. The combo you did is pretty dramatic. -1 in front is still pretty good. You may however find that you may have to shorten your chain by a link going that way. There may not be enough adjustment to take up all the slack with just going -1 and stock in the rear. Just saying...

Stock chain size will work with just going down a tooth in the front. I regularly swap mine in or out depending on how I'm feeling and/or which track I might be riding...

Nope, nobody makes what you are looking for. And yes, re-gearing is annoying, although you still have 140mph available by your calculations. I've kept my stock gearing and never felt the need to change.

Top speed is not a concern, 130+ on a bike is more than I care to do on the streets. LOL.

I guess I'll look in to bringing the rear sprocket back to stock size and recalibrating the speedo.

Thanks for everybody's input, even though it wasn't was I was hoping for.
