Default New 6th gear possible?

I'm a newbie to these bikes but have been racing cars for a long time. Anyway I'm a little put off by the current 5000+rpm highway RPM's and think I'll kill someone after a few months of it 50 miles a day on nice days. I know I can fix it by changing the sprokets but that's going to kill power across the board, which I don't want to do if I have any choice.

I couldn't find any mention of this on a search but has anyone changed the actual 6th gear itself? Is there a different ratio gear cut out there that would fit the current assembly or would I be looking at spending a grand or more to machine a new one depending on shape of the cuts? I'd like to make 6th more of an overdrive style gear, as opposed to another 5th gear.

Thanks for any info.

That's the way these bikes run - high rpm's. You're just used to having 5k rpm in a car being near redline. Besides, the pull in 6th gear on the highway is pretty good, you don't even have to downshift.
I'm sure it would be possible to have new gears cut, but it'll cost a ton of dough...plus, if you don't match steels or have it hardened to match properly, it'll destroy itself or the rest of the tranny. Bad idea.

"You're just used to having 5k rpm in a car being near redline." It's a half bridge ported rotary so 9,000rpm : ) But yes I get your point. It just seems high for long term cruise. I'll confess I haven't taken it close to redline yet heh. I'll just get used to it then.

I would not do this either. I too had to get used to the high RPM on the highway... And I am running -1/+1 gears at the moment, so running 75mph on the highway has me at about 7100rpm... That used to bother me, but then I realized that while 7000rpm seems like a lot, it is only halfway to redline. Were I to compare that to a car that has a 5500rpm redline, it would be like only running it at 2500rpm, which you would not think twice about.
