Default Gearing? 15/45 & hate it

02 f4i
i have a 15-45 and hate it i think the stock gearing is 16 48. i heard that a 16 49 would be better for a dd?

the main purpose for the bike is daily driving and right now the speedo says im going 60 when im going 45(i know that can be fixed but...) and im reving 5500 going 45 in 6th gear... so yeah i want to be in the 6-6500 going 70 thated be great.

i mean what rpm range does the f4i prefer for cruzing? my 78gs550 likes 6000 at 70 but the f4i revs higher and i figured if i got the retarted gearing closer to stock my spedo wouldnt be that far off. need some input thx u

stock is 16 46. You setup is weird as they went for faster acceleration in front but slower in rear. If I were you I'd just change the front back to a 16. Stock 50mph is 4000rpm, 85mph is about 7k.

^ Yep, 16/46 is OEM. The OEM setup is sufficient for everyday riding.

Its popular to go -1/+2 for quicker acceleration but you're top end will suffer somewhat at interstate speeds. Take a look at Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Speed, RPM, Chain & Sprockets Calculator if you want to understand more.

sweet it might be the stock rear gear it says 45 and 46 on it so it might be a 46. but the front i counted was 15. 1 more ? was wondering if u can tell by looking, the diffrence between a 525 (stock) and a 520 chain i took a 520 link of my 04 yz250f and it looks awfully close to my chain i just want too make sure i get the right sprocket for the right chain

The sprocket(s) & chain will have the size printed/stamped on them.

think you hate yours i have a 16/60 i freaking hate it.... couldn't really lay into the throttle at low gear i would be up on one wheel...stunter configuration... i am going to stay stock on the front.. i might go with a 48 rear.... i am going for more linear pull than sinking torque .... i will never top speed this bike....

lol stlcbr yeah idk even with my 15 45 mine dont pull up by merely twisting the throttle i havent tried really hard to bring it up tho lol but ok ill check see what chain i got and get a 16 front for now might get a 48 later seems like that would be a happy med between pull and rideablity

i run a 15/46 for more acceleration, your gas mileage does go down a little bit tho

I've got 15/44 but used to have 15/46. I'm about to redo chain and sprocket and am going back to 15/46. Has a little more umphh but the revs aren't much higher. As far as mpg loss, right now I still get over 30 and since it is a bike and for fun I don't even worry about it.
