where can I get a 6 inch slider? Does the 4 inch really protect everything?

I'm not sure if you'll need the 6 inch. I'm sure the 4 inch frame slider will do it's job. I crashed w/o the 6in frame slider and my bike made out ok. If you're looking for cages, ebay has some. It's a bit over $200. You can also check this classifieds on this forum.

unless you are stunting i don't think you'll need a cage. Its big obtrusive ugly and sometimes effect the degree you can lean

If you crash at any decent speed, a cage will do more harm than good. Because it sticks out farther, it is way more likely your bike will flip upside down onto the tank and upper, thus doing way more damage than a normal lowside slide. Plus, a cage is cumbersome, and can inhibit the performance of the bike as far as lean angle and body positioning.

Besides, if you crash hard enough, it won't matter what you've got on the bike. So I'd recommend the sliders.

+1 on Vortex they install in two pieces the base into to frame making a nice solid fit and then the puck bolts to the base so that way they can also be changed and come in many colors.
