Default Frame Sliders

I dont know if anyone has posted about this topic yet, but I just purchased my CBR600f4i and I was interested in getting some frame sliders. I have two questions. 1.How much are frame sliders? 2.Is there any drilling when putting the frame sliders on the CBR600f4i??

Thanks.

Default RE: Frame Sliders

I paid $49 for a pair of intuitive durlon frame sliders for my 1998 CBR 600 F3. I haven't installed them yet b/c I have a custom paint job and am afraid of the paint peeling when I drill for the slders. Anyone got any suggestions as to how I can prevent this from happening. I have a heated garage so the plastic is about 70 degrees, not 14 like it is outside. I appreciate any help

First off,
Let me start by saying I don't 100% reccomend frame sliders. The only thing they will help protect against is low speed drops or someone knocking your bike over while it's parked. If you are going to buy frame sliders ONLY buy the durlon or urethane frame sliders. If you drop the bike at high speeds those types of sliders will grind down and "help" the bike come to a stop. DO NOT buy the carbon fiber, aluminum, or hard plastic sliders. If you go down at high speed, they don't wear down and can cause the bike to actually skid farther then it would have on it's own. Also with them being harder, I have seen several accidents where the hard sliders dug into the ground and caused the bike to flip, resulting in a total loss. So if you get them, go with the durlon.

As far as installing them, if you want to prevent your paint from chipping, cover the area you are going to cut into with masking tape. Use a hole saw the right size for the slider. Cover the area with plain masking tape, and cut your hole. The masking tape will protect the paint.

F4i sliders DO REQUIRE That the fairing is drilled on BOTH SIDES....start small with the hole and work your way out, or take it to a shop that is accustomed to doing the work.

oooooooooooooook well i guess this is probally a little too late, u have most likely already gone out and bought a set but I have frame sliders (derlin) that did not make me drill my plastics. Theyre made by Lightning performance and theyre pretty nice Im completely satisfied (hoping they never have to be used). So if ya bought sum already just make sure to tape off the area and use a dremal tool, If not them check em out theyre like 50 bux just like the rest of em.
