Motorcycle engines require a different pressure relief than car engines. Filters for cars are not low enough for bikes. Not sure how big of a deal it is, just stating a fact. With that said, I've been using Japanese made filters for cars for years without any problem.

Interesting I didn't know that. So do think at idle/low rpm the bike might not create enough oil pressure to open up the valve?

That's what they say anyway. I read that somewhere and did some digging. I looked up all the car filters I have available to me to find that car filters are not to the same spec as bike filters. If I can find the article, I'll post it up.

I have no reason not to, but a lot of after market products are actually better than the OEM. This might not be the case for oil filters, but I was just curious if it was. Thanks a lot for the input though, I might be going with the OEM filter anyway.

mobile 1 synthetic 10w-40 with mobile 1 filter M1-110
the best!
Mobile 1 is expensive...50+ bucks for everything. But they have a good rep. and i've used them in my cars for years

question: how many miles can i go on synthetic oil? is it 5000 like car oils or should i change it at 3000?

I hope you are not using Mobil1 car oil in the bike.

The manual says 8k on regular oil. I'm not going 8k between oil changes on my bike or with regular oil. No way! I use synthetic, (rotella t6 synth, at walmart for $22/gal), and change it at 4-5k tops. Thats every 2 months for me, 9 months out of the year. I ride a nice canyon commute twice a day (100mi a day), 6 days a week.

Change it after however long you want, just be consistent. Do it at least every 6 months if you dont ride that much.

I'm of the thinking that Oil is cheap, motors are expensive.

i use suzuki full synthetic, and honda oil filters, i dunno.. seems to work
+1 oil is cheap motors are expensive
depending on what kind of riding you do your oil will get destroyed quicker as an example in this video, higher revs do a number on it.

the smoke is oil of course.

Wow, amazing video!

I think I will buy a OEM Honda filter, I'm not sure about the oil though. Probably the best I can afford. I wont be using car oil haha.

Thanks!

^ The great thing about quality oil is - that it doesn't have to be the most expensive to be good. Case in point = Rotella. Honda GN4 isn't as expensive as many other oils either.

As I said b/f, its often a personal choice. Most quality motorcycle oils will suffice for your needs.

It was hard finding the oil, Only one store in bakersfield sells it and it's Walmart all the way across town, I bought 3 gallons because of that. Plus I ride about 3k miles every other month so i do oil changes all the time. Daily Driver anyone? Haha
