Fan Fell Off!

Fan Fell Off!
Tearing up some back roads this weekend in NJ, after a few hours of some pretty hard riding, cross over into PA to the traffic filled little town of New Hope. Sitting in a ton of traffic for about 5 minutes, next thing I know, the temp is @ 250 and my display lights are begging me to pull over. Pull over and I hear the fan shaft spinning, but the actual fan is just sitting still. WTF? Took the highway home, and rode in the highest gear to keep the engine at optimal temp. I would think this is something covered under the warranty, but found it pretty strange that the fuggin fan would shear or fall of the shaft!

I was kind of wondering the same thing...but I can tell you this: The bike only ran at that temp or 2-3 minutes max, I know this because I went from doing 50-60 to 0-1 MPH pretty quickly, then I noticed it. Thus, I wasn't cooking her too long. Also, The bike seemed like it had all its power on the way home, and I didnt hear any knocking or ticks with the valves...which makes me think... I should be ok. Going to change out all the fluids to be sure everything is clean, and then I'm just going to try and not wonder about it anymore...but thanks for reminding me kid!

i wonder what other type of damage might have been caused by the bike running @ those temps

RE: Fan Fell Off!
The fan is molded around a not that attaches to the shaft. I know this cause not long ago some tar fipped up and got caught between the fan and the rad. and when the fan tried to turn on it got stuck and stripped the fan so it was not longer attached to the nut it was originally molded around. And I tell you it sucks butt when it happens.
