Default Fairing Question

My fairings are very rashed up, and I want my bike to look good again. I'm not asking which aftermarket fairings to get(I know there are a lot of reviews on here, and I have read pretty much every one of them and have a good idea), instead my question is this...I took my fairings off, and brought them to our family friend who owns a body shop. I want my fairings to look like when I got the bike, same color and everything. He said he has never worked on plastic fairings, but he thinks he can fix them with filler and paint, and I could order the decals and he can put them on...all that would cost right around $550-$575. My question is would it make more sense to do this, or to spend right around that same amount of money and get the aftermarket fairings?

For the stock look I would personally go with new fairings. The only reason I would pay someone to paint is if I was going for an other than stock look. That's just me though.

If he's going to use a quality auto paint, I would think it will be more durable and easy to touch-up any future boo-boo's. You will also be able to pick a custom color
scheme. The price is right and yes, your standard fillers and glazing compounds work fine on plastics. Plus you are putting some money in a family friends pocket.

The flip side is instant gratification with new fairing set and pristine plastics.

I'd lean in the custom colors and friend network.

I would probably go with the family friend. If he's good at what he does he'll probably hook you up. You get better paint, and you don't have to wait a month for the plastics to come from China lol. I'm having to order mine because no one around here works on motorcycles so I do my own work

Thank you guys. I have decided I am going to go with my guy. He will use high quality paint, and I know that if anything goes wrong he will fix it. Plus, like some of you said, I would rather give my money to someone I know.
