F4i Miles per gallon
the octane has nothing to do with performance boosting it's a measurement of how easily the fuel evaporates and what it's flash point is.
Here in CO the lowest octane rating is 85 (because of the altitude) and is what I use, but only Shell gasoline for me. It's also now "nitrogen enriched" which is supposed to burn cleaner.
**** yea, sannnnnnn. the shell by me closed
.most people have the "OMFG DUUUDEe I PUT JET FULE IN MY BIKE AND ROCKED IT SO FAST!!!!!1!!! IT WAS TEH BR00TLES!!" mentality with fuels. you'll have this.
ahh yes the eternal debate of octane=performance
Octane rating signifies the fuels resistance ignition to while being compressed. Higher the percent the greater the resistance.
in high altitudes they have lower ratings. High alt = low oxygen
Low oxygen = more difficult ignition
People that put high octane in their bike are paying for "mental performance".
Our bikes have O2 sensors and fuel injection with maps. Octane is not going to make a noticable difference because the computer regulates it all to optimize performance.
I don't have problems with pre-ignition (knocking) so I use and recommend 87.
Buy you gas at reliable source and you will be fine.

True, but CA models are being sold in a dozen states per states adopting tighter policies.
But yes you are rightonly ca has a O2 in the exaust to give more feedback.
Either way, these bikes are a far cry from even ten years ago.
