Default F4i inverted fork swap?

Has anyone done/heard of an inverted fork swap on an f4i? I know it makes more than a world of difference on dirtbikes (conventional forks are only used on entry level/super old bikes). I was curious to see if anyone here has heard of a conversion.

I have a 2000 Yamaha R1 fork swap on my 2002 CBR F4i.

It was an expensive swap but after I sold my old f4i parts, I think I invested about $400 into it plus my time and labor.

Biggest improvement I think so far is that the bike feels a bit more stable to me on the track. I did more of a unconventional swap as I believe the honda 929/954 are the more common swapped front ends as every thing bolts up easier.

My r1 swap took a little work and playing around with to get it 100%.

The main reason I did my swap is because I wanted the look of inverted forks. With that said, I did notice some improvements because besides the forks, I have all yamaha front brakes consisting of a brembo radial MC so I feel improvements there.

From research you will find that 600rr forks can be swapped somewhat easier but they are shorter forks so it will change the geometry of the bike.

The most common reason people change forks are for stunting. The swaps end up giving you a beefier front end that can handle the abuse of stunting. I cannot wheelie nor do I want to learn. Track is where it is at for me!

Now that Ive said Ive done the swap I suppose I load images so you can see!

Bike looks incredible, nice job! Yeah, I'm not interested in stunting this bike at all. I would tool around with wheelies on the supermoto, but I'm not trying to starve this engine for oil.

Do you know if the f4i wheel will bolt right up to 929/954 forks? I would probably do the brake conversion at the same time.

oh, one more question, what brand are your rearsets? How do you like them?

you can bolt on most front ends the most important thing you need is the triple clamps off of the bike you plan on using. then you need to measure the length of the steering stem and again this is a farely common size in diameter but the lengths fluctuate so doing some homework to make sure you get the right set up is essential. the reason for the swap that is more common is the fact that the handling chacteristics and feedback are much better plus the fact that they are more adjustable.

Ah, I was assuming you could use the f4i triple clamps but I don't know what they look like since I'm not in front of my bike...I mean surely they won't work for inverted forks. A little homework never hurt anyone though.

Hey:

F4 triples are 43 mm or 45mm, 929 & RC51 are 50 mm they are not going to interchange

You need to get as much of the front end complete as you can to make this as easy for yourself as possible. Try to get a complete a front end as you can, Handlebar clips, Triples clamps upper & lower, fork tubes, calipers, rotors, axle & spacers, and front wheel so all the offsets match, and the install goes as easy as it can. Other wise plan on a little R&D to get it all working right

first off, skamiegh did his right, he took his time, and did it right-no shortcuts.

i have done fork swaps on f4is for my stunting buddies and for all around drivability they just never felt as good as the stock f4i front end, but they were never tweaked as much as the time skamiegh has spent on his.

f4i tripples r 43mm, and any cbr frotn end bolts to the steering stem, the 1000rr forks are the same length as the f4i and the 600rr are shorter
there are some companies that will machine the f4i wheel for use with the 929 bearings on a 929 front end-its cheaper to just get the wheel for the front end you are doing

preesh vangill! I did take my time doing it. Had I realized how much money ive put into this bike since ive owned it, I couldve bought a newer cbr rr lol

Then again the f4is are my favorite bikes for looks!

My rearsets are the Vortex ones. They are great except they dont make them anymore and i need a replacement rear brake pedal. I may end up just buying a set of woodcrafts

Vangill, when you say tweaked what exactly do you mean? Simply experimenting with compression/ rebound? Or do you mean finding what parts work well together?
