I agree, change the filters (at least air, fuel). I have a 2001 and runs strong. I put +1 larger for the front sprocket and -3 for a rear (note: steel will last longer than aluminum). Dropped the RPMs by 1,000 (at speed)! Driven conservatively (65-70mph), I am getting 50 MPG on freeway miles.

It's your fuel pressure regulator. They go bad in these things all the time. A few examples:

https://cbrforum.com/m_135523/tm.htm
https://cbrforum.com/m_498591/tm.htm

edit: if you don't have a speedohealer, your odometer is off too. When you say you're only getting 100miles per tank before the reserve kicks on, you're really only getting like 85 miles.

How much does a fuel pressure regulator cost and how hard is it to change it out? Any good how-to's? I've been noticing the fuel smell more and more when I ride and my bike has the occassional power surge as well.
