Default Fuel problems

I don't have a working fuel gauge of any sort on my f4i because my sensor is shot. I found out the hard way. I know my bike can go 210 miles on a full tank if I'm under 6k the whole time. But I like to fill up before 150 miles using my tripometer every time between stops. I have almost 45,000 miles now. The majority of the fuel is hidden out of view from looking in because of the angle of the tank so you wouldn't be able to see how far. I'd just fill up around 150 or 120 miles if I were you. Just ignore your fuel light and rely on your trip.

I don't get it. The most I have been able to squeeze out is around 140 miles before all the bars start blinking together. This usually means I am left with around 2 L in my tank. So if the tank capacity is 18 L then I get 125 miles(this is average as the 140 mile figure above was from summer, I get around 120 miles in winter time before all the bars start blinking together) for 16 L of fuel which I think is shambolic.
Why is there such huge variation between different bikes?

Riding style, street vs freeway and speed when on freeway, overall bike condition, plus the gauge is just not super accurate to begin with. Now a days mine likes to come on around 130ish miles, go out a mile or two later, then come back around 145miles and stay on. Not really an issue
