I recently picked up an f4i with the intention of replacing the motor, but after doing some research I have a few questions.

It has a bad rattling sound and is low on power. It sounds like the CCT is bad for sure, but could that result in lower power? Could the timing jump?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

 

I don't think it jumping timing is very common, but in severe cases it seems possible. Its definitely worth looking into

 

if timing was jumped then you'd know. there would be more than rattling going on. bike would run like absolute crap.
you don't have a failed cctl or failing cctl, you just have a noisy cctl. just replace with APE or OEM and you're done.
as for lower power...if you just picked up the bike...how do you know it's low on power? F4i's lower RPM is horrible.

 

The bike runs well, and idles fine. The few times I've taken the bike out it just feels so sluggish, but, I never really went past 6-7k because of the rattling noise. I'll throw a new CCT in and take her through the revs and see if the F4i just doesn't have a lot of bottom end.

yea the bike is fine. f4is are very sluggish below 7K
