Install the right crankcase cover while turning the lifter arm clockwise to engage the lifter arm groove with the lifter piece flange.
...is what the manual says. So the little arm that the clutch cable attaches to needs to be turned clockwise.

yeah, i got it turned. it seems like it might be hangin up on the clutch pack, like the plates might be out too far. i had a 900rr i took the plates out of (same plates), but i didn't count the plates before i put them in, so i'm not sure if i have too many. just seems like the plates are out too far. :shrugg:

not sure how many plates are in a 900rr, but just look at a part fische and check out the clutch between each bike and see if they are in deed the same thickness and number of plates

are the dowl pins in straight, and i prefer to put them in the crankcase as opposed to the clutch cover. i feel like it helps line it up a little easier

found the problem...got the wrong clutch cover. the one i bought must be for an f4 or somethin

first pic is the bad cover, you can see the ribs on the inside protrude way too far and hit the clutch stack.

second pic is the correct cover with the ribs cut down.

...again thanks for everyones help.
