Default f4i average running temperatures?

Hello all,

so i was had my f4i for almost a year now and I was wondering what temps should the bike be running at, highway speeds?

basically my bike will sometimes climb to 190 or 200ish but then fall back to normal, she would never overheat and at 226ish, in traffic the fan kicks on. but the climbing part is what worries me, at highway it should not be above 180ish. my friend has an f4i and he never seen 180 at highway. idk maybe i am just worrying for no reason. I'm not riding her hard either, just cruising and it will climb and then fall back..happens randomly too sometimes ill never see 190, but recently i have been seeing more of the climbing temps.

today i rode her in town, never went above 60mph and she was at 190-200 but that was in city, and i never saw 170 or 180, I always kept moving too. outside temp was 58.

Just some background, she just hit 17k and i did a full flush a re-filled with engine ice a few months ago.

Y'all think the thermostat is slowly starting to go bad, not opening fast enough or something? i feel as if this problem has to do with some wear and tear issues particularly with the thermostat but my friends f4i has almost 18k miles on it and his does not do this.

I know there are lots of threads on this issue but none I found talked about this particular issue. Some advice from the experts would be appreciated!

Thanks!

at those temps my 2001 runs like that with engine ice in it. on the interstate with those outside temps 180 for sure. hotter days 185 i think
it was pretty cold one day and i even hit 225, idling in traffic. not sure when the thermostat opens up, what is your friends bike doing?

yea it always goes up to 225 at idle and then the fan always kicks on. but sometimes, the temp climbs randomly when im cruising on the highway to like 190-200 but then it will fall back to 175-80.

my friends f4i does not seem to do this stays constant at highway speeds and does not seem to climb as fast as mine when idling in traffic.

thanks for the help!

hmm, unless you are drafting behind someone you could have a stuck thermostat. you say you flushed it? something could of dislodged. you would think it would stick open though.
my bike sat for 6 years and probably never had the antifreeze changed, i ran a mix of distilled white vinegar and distilled water, then flushed with 100% distilled water.
unfortunately the thermostat is directly under the throttle bodies, not going to be a easy check if you have stuck throttle bodies like me.

Possibly air in the cooling system. When you did the flush and fill, are you sure you bled all of it out? That's where I would start before checking any parts. Its much harder to tell if you got all the air out of the system with a bike since there's no AC, and the AC system will have problems with air in the system. You could also check your thermostat by removing it and boiling a pot of water putting it in and seeing if it has any trouble opening.

I live in Phoenix with temps at 50's now. My temperature is always 180-190 on freeways. And hits 126 at stop lights. To me it sounds normal.

I would check for air bubbles in the coolant lines, definitely will cause spikes in temp.

Bro your bike running normal the coolant is working when the computer gives it to the engine you have an fuel injected bike sometimes when going slow it doesn't even think to give it as much that's why yer getting high temps going slow, that bike can torch out to 15,000 rpms and get heated quickly it has 3 separate modes of temping. Māke sure you have good plugs.
