What really damages oil in a Motorcycle engine is the transmission. It shears oil and breaks it down. Cars don't worry about this because they ususally keep the transmission separate from the engine. If you are reffering to the valves, then remember that there are less moving parts in a motorcycle valvetrain than there is in a car valvetrain.
exatly, moto oil has to lube the clutch, transmission, then lube the cylenders, cam, valve, too.

penny pinchers need to rethink there priorities whats an extra few bucks every couple months?

Now I have always been a firm believer in keeping a machine oiled with what it is used to, but what would you guys recommend.
Just use a full synthetic in whatever viscosity is required for your temp range. Make sure it is NOT "energy conserving" and dosent have added moly. If you really don't feel comfortable with picking something, then just get Honda HP4.

Yes it seems Mobile 1 Gold Cap (15w50) is getting hard to find.

I run AMSOIL and filters they say you can go 8000 miles or one year on a oil change but I still stick to the recommended 4000 and do it every 3000 just because it makes me feel good. LOL

15w50 is good for temp ranges from about 25*F up. The intention is that it will work better at High temps where it is really needed.

I don't ride much when it's below freezing, and I ALWAYS warm my bike up before I ride, so it works fine for me.

the truth is you could probably get by with crisco if you change the it at 2000 miles.

You take it out to the local autozone or kragen, or even firestone and have them recycle it.

Some MOTORCYCLE dealers like the one near my local area, will give a 5% discount on next purchase for bringing in a certain amount of used oil.

by the way i jst use whats recommended 10w40 honda pro GN4, with honda filter. Not a daily rider, but at least 50 miles a week.

also i believe the f4i uses 3.5 quarts of oil. so purchase 4 bottles = 1 quart per bottle.

Don't do like me and be lazy until you have 10 gallons of used oil.[:@]

Most of those places will only accept 5 gallons at a time. Although with the price of oil now they would probably take all you want to give them.

I usually just take mine to the local Co-Op. They will take all the oil you want to give them.

Ancient thread I am bringing back to life but....how do you guys change the filter without making a total mess? Do you reach right in and unscrew it or does everyone use a filter wrench?

I think I read on the forums here that a Purolater 14610 will work just fine as well...3.56 at Advance Auto...gonna change my own oil since the dealer wants almost 60 ballons!

So no fairing removal eh? Would love to see some pics of this being done with fairings still on
