car oil wont kill it, BUT motorcycle oils are designed to lube the topend and the bottomend. so you may get notchy shifting ect..
i changed out whatever oil the previous owner put in and i defenetly felt a change when shifting and moticed less vibration at speed.

there's more to an oil's properties than its viscosity. There's shear resistance, flashpoint, additive package...the list goes on, and on, and on.

And switch to full synthetic, just make sure it is motorcycle oil and not car oil.
Car oil is find as long as it is NOT energy conserving and does NOT contain "friction modifiers" those will mess up the clutch pack.

I use Honda OEM filters and Mobile 1 15w50 Full Synthetic every 3K. You will notice the tranny shifts smoother after an oil change.

IMHO $55 is too much for an oil change. The bike uses less oil than a car and is easier to get to everything.

GN4 and OEM Filters are recommended.

Don't use FRAM. If you want to know why, cut one apart sometime. OEM Honda or K&N are the best IMHO.
You wouldn't happen to have the part number for the oil filter would you?

Right filter: 15410-MCJ-003

Yes, addative packages are different (hence no "energy conserving" oils). I have read about a gagillion pages about oil and oil addatives. I haven't been able to find anything from any intelligent source to explain why car oil is any different that Motorcycle oil other than the marketing.

Umm, I don't quite understand this. What really damages oil in a Motorcycle engine is the transmission. It shears oil and breaks it down. Cars don't worry about this because they ususally keep the transmission separate from the engine. If you are reffering to the valves, then remember that there are less moving parts in a motorcycle valvetrain than there is in a car valvetrain.

There really isn't a lot of black magic to oils. Just educate yourself and make your own decision. If you don't want to take the time, just buy a case of Honda GN4 or HP4 and call it a day.

I use K&N oil filters and Koltz fully synthetic oil. The oil is a bit expensive.... $40 for 4 litres but the bike just adores it.
To remove the oil filter without removing the fairing, all you need is the Honda tools that come with the bike. Use the spark plug wrench and a spanner.

I use "car oil" (and regular at that, no synthetic ever) at almost every change and also a fram filter on every vehicle I've ever owner for the last 15 + years. NO engine problems yet using either product. Read the specs on the side of the container to see if it meets the engine's requirements.

The previous owner of my '01 F4I said that he used Mobil 1 synthetic in the bike and that it was like $11.00 a quart. It is getting near time to change the oil and I am having difficulty finding the Mobil 1 oil. A couple of bike shops that I have been to have this Castol synthetic. Now I have always been a firm believer in keeping a machine oiled with what it is used to, but what would you guys recommend.
