Default Electronic Gear Indicator

Does anyone have one of these? Ive never actually ridden my F4i, I bought it in December and now Im getting prepped for riding season. How hard is it to tell which gear its in? Ive only ridden GSXRs so they already have an indicator and are very easy to shift. However I rode a kawi and it was a nightmare to get from first to 2nd and vis versa. Thanks for any input

I'd say learn to ride without it first, then if you feel like it later, put one on. The thing is, like you stated, if you learn on a bike that has one, you become dependant in having to look at it all the time. Once you get the feel for the gears, you’ll be able to tell when you shift from 2nd to 1st. Another aid I use is to catch the flash of the green neutral light as you transition to first. Having said that, just today I stalled it trying to pull off a light in 2nd, lol. As far as the transmission on the F4i, it’s been described by some as “clunky”. I’ve found that proper throttle control, and in particular blipping the throttle sufficiently enough when shifting, has all but eliminated any chunkiness my bike ever demonstrated.
