RE: ECU needed for CBR 600 F4I
The engine was initially running perfectly fine, except for one time when the spark plugs got fouled up and had to be replaced. The engine was then transported for some distance via truck, after which it fired only once, and then stopped sparking at all. I examined the cam pulse and ignition pulse generators, and found that the ignition pulse generator was giving very low voltage pulses as seen on a CRO (~0.1V peak types) while the cam pulse generator gave respectable values (~1.5V peak types). I then fiddled with the wiring to check for loss of continuity, and while attempting to crank up the engine, one of the wires from the ignition harness got shorted with the engine cylinder head, as a result of which the corresponding spark plug adaptor blew up. I then replaced the adaptor, but found that the fuel pump was no longer running whenever the kill switch was activated. Also the dashboard stopped flashing the 'key' and 'FI' lamps after this. I suspect the ECU might have been damaged during this incident, but I am still not very clear why I had no spark initially. I suspect my ignition pulse generator not functioning to be the reason for getting no spark initially.

still, the main 20A fuse should blow before the ecu would be fried. i had no spark some days ago and it was because the dumbass which assembled my bike didn't tighten the bolts on the ignition pulse generator(crankshaft position sensor) and it just untightened and fell off. and yes, that's because of the sensor.
