I just had the front and side fairings off yesterday. Makes it look like its all business imo. But I still like the sweet styling of the F4i plastics better.

Tore off the fairings and disconnected the hose to the waterpump..drained...rinsed the radiator with distilled, reconnected hose and refilled radiator and ran temp to 185...let cool a tad...disconnected hose and drained again..coolant/water comes out of both the hose (from radiator) and a little from the waterpump...I felt like I probably got most 85-90% of it out doing it this way...see the pics of the coolant..I am assuming that is 9 year old stock OEM coolant that sat for long periods on numerous occasions (seeing as the bike only has 8000 miles and its an 01. Anyway, reconnected hose and filled radiator with 1 bottle of 50/50 HP Honda coolant and the rest with distilled water...started her up let idle to 185 watched thermo open and level drop...topped er off and bleeped her a few to watch the bubbles come up then capped her up!

Took some pics street-fighter style and took her for a spin with the fairings off...I must say...I really am tempted to just keep the fairings off as I like the look a lot..

The temp ran perfect...175-180's cruising...up to 200-220 sitting and fan kicking in at 220...never sees past 225

Quick random question..sometimes I forget what gear Im in esp. when im coming to a quick halt and am smacking down gears and sometimes I hit first and still tap again and obviously the shifter just clicks...this is not harming anything correct? How about trying to shift up from 6th? Just clicks...but was wondering if it causes any damage? Didnt think so but figured id ask Thanks

First pic with the bike below is with the HID's on..love dem things!

the fan on my 03 comes on around 226-229 and the highest i have seen it was 233 (i was stuck in traffic) i am going to try what you did with the coolant and see if helps my bike run a little cooler. and it may not be 100% streetfighter but its nice to know the f4i's look cool with or without the fairings.

HydroPrelude85- Just remember that different years had different temp tolerances for the fan to come on..mine is an older F4i (01) and the fan kicks on right at 220..I know others with newer F4i's where it kicks on at 226 like yours..a max temp of 233 is fine...ya its hot but its not overheating and once you start moving if it goes down then your fine...All in all, its nice to do a coolant flush for pc of mind...I personally believe that coolant I had in there was the original and 9 years old! I flushed it pretty well and used all distilled water and 1 bottle Honda HP 50/50. I must say it does run a bit cooler (5-8 degrees) and it does take much more time now when rising in temp, and while moving, drops much quicker.

Remember, dependent upon your location, you may not want to run as much distilled water as I did. I can, bc Im in the desert, and the 1 month out of the year where it does get down there at night, the little bottle of 50/50 I have in the system is more than enough to not let the water freeze. Now if I was back where I used to live in Chicago...Id have at LEAST 50% antifreeze in the system..cracked blocks aren't fun

Hmm that's very odd..possibly Honda used different sensors for different bikes or changed em to 225 mid/end 2001? I'm 104% sure my 01 clicks on right at 220 everytime..on the dot

I would much prefer the 220' sensor but mine kicks in at 225', except im 105% sure Im cnsidering the temp sensor mod where I can flick the switch.

Hey, thanks for the pics, I am planning to do a coolant flush soon.
No, you wont damage anything by upshifting from 6th or downshifting from 1st.
I used to do it all the time on my first bike and never had any problems.
