Default Coolant flush, confused..

sorry for another n00b question but here goes, I'm wanting to do a coolant flush for my 06 F4i but I'm confused as to where I refill the coolant (after I drain), in this (https://cbrforum.com/forum/how-mecha...-f4i-rr-62535/) guide it says to fill from the radiator but in the service manual it says to fill from the reserve tank. Also, in the that guide, on step 1, it says I need to remove the radiator cap and the overflow bottle hose.. ? It doesn't mention this in the service manual.

Can anyone clear this up? And any tips/things I should look out for?

thanks!

You want to fill it through the top of your radiator, where the pressure cap attaches. You should remove the overflow/reserve hose from the neck (see arrow below). Hang this hose down to syphon the liquid out of it. Stick the (garden) hose in it and flush out the plastic container real good. There'll be a bunch of crap in there.

Here's how I flushed mine. Didn't bother with the water pump drain bold.

Oh yeah, don't get any on your fairings. Coolant will eat paint & plastics.

Fill it from the Radiator cap. Run it until the fan comes on. Let it cool down enough to relieve the pressure and top it off.

The only reason to remove the hose on the overflow tank is to drain it. Make sure to refill it only to the upper line, no more.

Have the radiator cap tested, or just replace it, as well. They are available at any auto parts store. Just bring the old one with you so they can match it up.

thanks for the pics Incognito,

ok, so that overflow/reserve hose, is that what I use to drain the radiator? is that the same as the 'syphon hose' they refer to in the service manual?

so to start the drain, do I just need to disconnect it and run it to a drain pan that's lower than the radiator or do I actually need to suck in and start it?

thanks guys

His pic shows disconnecting the radiator hose to drain it. That is one way to do it. There is a drain bolt on the water pump as well.

thanks 74demon, I think I know what to do now.

Does Honda sell a premixed coolant so I don't need to mix my own?
What coolant do you guys recommend?
After I do a coolant flush/fill, should I notice my bike running cooler?

thanks

Honda has great coolant, it will be fine for the street. Some like to use engine ice or water wetter, but is not necessary for normal riding. I doubt you will see a temperature drop, but ya never know...
