In order for peps to help, you need to be a little more specific. For example, it would be good to tell us, How long has this been going on, where is the sound coming from? Is there a chance that it could be pieces of metal clashing or grinding? When does it happen, at start up, while riding, maybe at a light or stop sign?

Check things like fairings for something loose.

I don't think our motors can 'clatter' like a lifter that won't pump up. Or can it?

It only does it at startup(afaik) and sounds like it is coming from the front of the engine..I only started to notice it recently...last month or so....I'm wondering if it could be the cam chain tensioner........I'm actually having that replaced under warranty today at the dealer so I guess I'll know when I pick it up tonight

If it isn't the CCT I guess the best way to describe it is it seems like a dry start where there is clatter until oil makes it way to that area...I doubt this is what it is as oil level is fine but just maybe an idea to visualize
