Cheap gas or Premium?
WHat kind of gasolineis everyone using in their bike(s). Thebook for the F4i suggests anything over 86 octane. Most people seem to use Premium all the time and swear by it. Just trying to get everyones feel and opinion on this one so myself, and anyone reading arn't giving their money to the oil companys.
Ex: I have an 87 Mercury 60hpoutboard, havealways ran premiumin it. Decided one day to put 87 in it. Absolutly no difference, what so ever, in anyway, since!

RE: Cheap gas or Premium?
When I first got my bike it had been sitting for around 4-5 months and I ran nothing but 87. The bike had some power cutting in/out issues which may have been fuel related so I started running 93 to help it and I have stuck with it ever since. I mean you're talking less than a dollar difference when filling up so I'd rather put in the good stuff just be safe, even if it doesn't quote/unquote need it.

I agree wit the first 2 posts, its like a buck difference? Why not put the BEST stuff in your toy! And ya these are high performance machines so give them the highest performance fuel. And just like maximus said would you put 87 in your lambo?! haha, My cousin says he uses shell 94 which I havent seen at any shells around here.
Also the lesser grade fuels can creat fuel deposits I have heard.

RE: Cheap gas or Premium?
Wow, nobody has talked about detonation or spark advance yet?
Looking at my 2006 owners manual and the bike itself I can find 2 places saying 86+ and one spot saying 91+.Im guessingthe motor has a knock sensor and pulls timing when lower octane is used. Octane = resistance to burn. The higher the octane, the harder to ignite the fuel and the slower the flame front travels, hence the reason you can run more timing. Detonation is when instead of the flame burning across the piston evenly everything just blows up at once, very bad.So you want the most advance you can get without detonation, and higher octane lets you run that extra timing for max efficancy. Most bikes will see a power and milage decrease with lower octane gas these days.
