Default changing gears

Recently in the UK we are having a cold spell (-7 to -13'c and i decided i needed to get out on my bike to change my tyres. (previous thread)
Anyway i left my house after my bike warmed up and went down the road to find i could only change neutral to 1st and 1st to 2nd, now after a bit of riding i got it to go into 3rd but then nothing only down.
When i try to change gear there was nothing there.
so what i was wondering is could the linkages be frozen ? or is there more of a problem, has anyone ever had this problem?

UK here too. Brrrrrrrrrrr eh!.......First thing I`d check would be my engine oil level. Start with the simple things before you give yourself sleepless nights. You dont say where the bike is stored (maybe for obvious reasons) but yes its been proper cold and oils, metals (clutch plates, cables) can all be effected by temperature. Best of luck fella and keep us posted as you go.

Be sure that the toe-shift linkage hasn't gotten loose and out of adjustment.
It can prevent you from being able to move the shifter enough to properly engage.

In one cleaned and adjusted the linkage and works a treat now, well on the paddock stand. when the roads are a bit safer ill get out and give it a proper run.. New tyres ices and snow = no riding for me lol
cheers for everyone's input.
maybe one day i'll be able to help someone else :-)
