Not sure why'd you'd downgrade but a single oil change won't affect anything. Not unless you use the wrong type of oil.

Using a high end oil affects the life of the engine and its parts over time. Same way in a pinch you can throw a quart of the cheapest stuff possible in there to get you home without any lasting effect. Again, so long as its the right weight and viscosity

If the oil meets factory specifications and is suitable for a wet clutch, then changing brands or even types won't hurt anything.

What about going from synthetic to regular? The guy at the dealer told me that once you start using synthetic, it's bad on the engine to go back.

It's not bad to go back and forth from synthetic to regular oil. I start every riding season with a cheap oil like Castrol 4T 10W40 motorcycle oil and then switch to the Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W40 when it gets a little hotter outside.

Just like said before, stay with the proper type of oil suited for motorcycles and you should be fine.

I also use a cheap oil for winter storage too. I go and buy whatever Walmart has as the cheapest 10W40 to use to sit in my bike over the winter (cheapest meaning, cheap car oil). I only start the bike up once with the cheap oil--when I am ready to change the oil back to the Castrol 4T (this is just to heat up the oil so it can flow out easier).

He's full of it. Maybe you should change dealers with your next oil change, too...

Yep, pretty much this. Your manual should tell you all you need to know. Only thing it won't tell you is that you should go to wal-mart, score a gallon of rotella T, and change it yourself!
(That's my job....lol)

Hell, my last oil change I mixed three different oils (Honda GN4, Repsol 4T moto, Repsol Sintetico) and everything is running just swell.

I was told the same thing, even though, I'm just personally nervous to run anything less, one of those, "pay to play" kinda things. Plus, I plan on riding my bike till it dies, so synthetic will help it run longer.

1.) That's what I meant when referring to a change in oil "type."

2.) In addition to being wrong, I doubt he could explain why he thought that was true other than being a way to scare you into buying their more expensive oils.

Drain the synthetic out and put a high quality conventional oil in there if you like. You're not going to hurt anything.
