Default Chain turning white

I recently bought some chain lube at Wal-mart, don't remember the brand off the top of my head. I grabbed some Wd-40 and a tooth brush and gave the chain a good scrub. Then I sprayed on the chain lube and itcoated my chain white. The white comes off when I brush it so I'm not concerned about it hurthing my chain, just that it looks like poop. But is this normal? Is there any chain lube that anyone can recommend for me to use?

it's fine as long as you're buying motorcycle chain lube. I usually buy a no-fling lube from the local bikeshop/dealership. it's not expensive for the number of times I can use it.

+1 - you can just wipe/fling off the excess... it'll turn back to black soon enough :-)

That's probably because it's chain wax and that's normal. Don't go crazy with it or it just cakes on.

I use chain wax on my bikes. I heard though that the propellant in WD40 eats away at the rubber in the O-Rings. I have a gallon of it that I use with a pump spray bottle to clean the bike. Plus, it is cheaper if you buy it that way. Kerosene I hear is best to use for cleaning chains, I dont know if there are any performance differences.
