I'M TRYING TO INSTALL A CHAIN MYSELF BUT APPARENTLY I HAVE THE RIVET TYPE CHAIN (A RK CHAIN 525) IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN PUT THE CHAIN ON WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY THE SPECIAL RIVET CHAIN TOOL?

 

From what I understand, you need the tool to compress the rivot to a mushroom shape, there's a thread somewhere back on this , it's a step by step with pic's on this very subject. I think "Chain stretcher" did it or "Old Fat Guy" man don't nail me on this it's been a while [>:]

 

I WAS THANKING IF I COULD USE A FLARING TOOL FROM THE AUTO PARTS STORE.THE TOOL THEY USE FOR FLARING THE BRAKE LINES.

Chain tool prices vary. Motion Pro makes some inexpensive stuff but [from what I hear] it breaks easily. I have the DID chain tool and it costs over $100. IMHO, don't skimp on chain tools because it would pay for itself after one or two uses anyway.

 

Just get the clip type
