Ok guys noob here, so i could really use your help.. I dropped the bike landed on its left side. so i broke the stator cover and lost all the oil bent a clip on and broke the top triple tree. So I finally got all the parts replaced and started it up but the motor rattles pretty bad from idle (after its warm)all the way up in rpms. Is it possible the cam tensioner got messed up when it hit the ground? and its just so loose that it rattles like crazy? could really used some help so any ideas are appreciated.. Thanks

 

I don't think an impact would cause damage to the CCT, it's just a spring that maintains tension on the piston. Chances are something didn't get bolted back up when you serviced the bike, go through all your fasteners, hoses, etc, look for loose parts.

My bet is that one of the guide pins for the stator cover snapped off and is flying around inside the stator, assuming the rattle is coming from the engine area. Pop the cover off and check.

 

Thanks for the replies... the rattle sounds like it is coming from the right side top of the motor. say around where youre right knee would be. I have not yet checked the bolts on the exhaust will do that tonight after work.. all my plastics are off the bike so i know its not those just being loose. but i am gonna go thru and make sure everything is tight.

 

saaawweeettt!!! changed the stock tensioner out with an APE and the rattle went away.. dont ask me how it could have possible happend but replacing it worked..

 

Those cctl's just need an excuse to fail, they will take anything

 

lol... yeah all i did was yell at it and tell it to go to its room and it started to rattle... now i just have to fix my battery charging problem and im back on the road..
