Default Carbon Fiber Help

Anybody know how to work with Carbon Fiber?? I've got an old CF MIG Slip on that the clear coat is coming off of. I just leasrned this weekend that the packing is shot, so I'll end up re-packing it but thought if I could I'd fix the clear on it also.

Pics show the damage. Where clear has come off it is down to the actual fibers, so simply sanding is out of the question. But I can't just clear over it again as there is still bubbles coming apart from the fibers that would just continue to peel off.

So is there any way to remove the rest of the clear without damaging the fibers underneath??

Or should I just say fockit and get a new slip on to put on the high mount mid pipe??

here man this could help you out a tooooooooooooooooooooooon.......

http://www.carbonmods.co.uk/

at that site you can buy everything to do your own carbon fiber look... here is what ide do if i were you either buy the stuff from them to resin it or .....

and this is the option ide go... make sculpt of your carbon fiber section and just simply order a carbon fiber kit from them and make a new sleeve.... and order a repacking kit... you can still use both ends and the MIG emblem... since from your posts i know your partial to that exhaust u have there....

plus youd save the money of having to buy a new slip on

they even have informational vids on youtube showing you how to use their products...(its pretty much like fiber glassing)

its not really clear coat per se, its the finish from the resin after the carbon section was baked in an autoclave when it was made. the deterioration of the packing resulted in excess heat being applied to the carbon shell and what you are seeing is called delamination. no way to fix it with sanding/painting etc, it needs new carbon. great excuse to sell it and get a new one!

Thanks for the replies everyone, while I am partial to this pipe like ZMDS said, I like it because it's one of a few that don't have the mounting ring wrapped around it to deter from the pipe. But I think I may just pull this one off and try and use the mounting bracket from it on the new pipe I get...may try a Micron. Get all custom and shyt...LOL
