Default brake trouble

so i just did a brake job and replaced the pads front and rear. i undid the rear caliper bolts and pushed the piston back in. Put the new brake pads in. bolted it back all together and pumped up the brake pads and they grip when i free spin the tire. then i took it for a test ride oup the street. no more than a 2 min ride and i have no rear breaks and the rotor is on fire pretty much. if anyone knows any secrets or could help i would greatly appreciate it.

here`s a couple of things to check if the rear disc is heating up, are the brakes dragging or does the bike move easily.
if the rear is dragging it may be the piston or pistons are not returning or the pads are sticking on the pins (this will require taking the calliper of for a clean and a check over) clean every thing up pump the pistons out and clean, check the seals and re-grease the pins with copper grease.
if the rear spins easily check you do not have a leaking piston seal, which may put fluid onto the disc which will contaminate the pads giving you no rear brake, check your fluid resevior to see if the levels down, take the calliper of and check the seals and the body for leaking,
hope this starts you off

Sounds like the fluid reservoir is too full, or the little hole in the master cylinder that relieves pressure as the fluid heats up is blocked.

i checked both of these out and neither was goin on. the brakes do squeeze right up next to the rotor. when i have it on the stand and spin the rear wheel and then push the rear brakes they stop the tire but once im on the road it wont stop.

put it on the stand again and ride it through the gears and see if the wheel stops when you brake. if not then maybe try bleeding them if you already havent done so.

If they are getting super hot then thats why they aren't stopping you anymore, never mind the fact the rear brake barely does anything to begin with. The only way this will happen is if the caliper is creating pressure and then not releasing, keeping the pads pushed againts the rotor and building heat.

I had a similar problem on my FL on the front brakes but no brake fade just the rotors getting hot and it was eating the pads as if there was no tomorrow.
Stripped the calipers again and found that the copper grease I'd put on the slider pins had dried and the mechanism had gone very stiff. laeaned the pins and then put hmp grease on (taking care not to contaminate the rotor)and it's cured the problem.
Hope this helps
