Default Similar issue, idiot in distress

Hello i recently changed the oil on my 2003 600rr, due to low budget i did not replace the oil filter during the process. the oil i used was from my local honda dealer told me to use ProHonda GN4 SAE 10-40w SJ, i drained the oil that was in the bike previously and let it sit for a bit to make sure it was empty as i could get it then tightened the bolt back on continued to fill it up then after the bike started up just fine so i let it idle as i cleaned up. i then came back and to my suprise when i went to shift into 1st the bike just shut down. i repeated this a couple times thinking the oil just needed to cycle through and it didnt solve the problem, does anyone have any suggestions that can help me out here?

Make sure your kickstand is up would be my first suggestion.
