Battery keeps dying
Over last winter I didn't ride enough and the original battery I had on the bike ended up dying. My bike is a 2002 F4i. I bought a trickle charger which would sometimes charge it just enough to get the bike started, but once turning the bike off for a few minutes there was not enough charge to get it restarted. So, I ended up having to buy a new battery. So, I got a new battery from BatteriesPlus. It is a 12V Xtreme permaseal battery. I bought this brand new battery in June of this year. Since putting it on, over the past couple months I have had no issues until last week. I hadn't ridden for a few weeks and went out to turn my bike on and it was dead again. So, I took the battery out and put it on the trickle charger. After 6 days on the charger I reinstalled the battery and it still did not work. BatteriesPlus tested it and put it on their charger and say it is now ready to go. I am going to pick it up right now. But, why would a battery which I bought only 4 months ago be dead? What is the typical battery life of a 12V motorcycle battery and how long can you go between rides where it wont affect anything?
Thanks
Thanks
Hmmmm......sounds like its your stator, the stator is the electrical charging system like an alternator on a car. Its located on the lower left side of the bike. I have had the original battery in my 02 and it still is in it.
Hey, thanks for the response. I ended up taking it to the Honda dealer and they performed a check. Found out that BatteriesPlus sold me a crappy battery. They said they have seen that problem before. They recommended a Yuasa brand name battery. They told me that is all that is wrong. So, hopefully that will be it and I will learn my lesson that you cant go cheap on batteries. I might go pick up my bike today (hopefully it will start because I didnt have the dealer put the battery in for me). I found the battery online for $120 shipped to me. The dealer wanted $180 for it. So, after I get my new battery in the mail and hook it up I will repost to let people know if that is it or not. Then hopefully others will learn you cant go cheap on batteries.
