Another oil question

No, not the usual Synthetic versus Petroleum question... I use full sythetic and change the oil and filter every 1500 miles.
This one has to do with the thickness of the oil. I live in Atlanta, GA. I rarely ride when it is less than 50 degrees(f) outside. The standard oil for this bike is 10W-40. Now, I am reading here and there in magazines about switching to a different weight oil in order to pick up a couple HP.
Does this actually work? Would going to 15W-50 or something add a HP or two? Being that I never ride in the truly cold, is that a factor?
My next oil and filter change, I was going to go from Motul 300V to Royal Purple, and was wondering if while I am at it, if I should switch to a different weight.
Thoughts?

Well, I have read that sort of stuff and that was why I was asking. I meant to say a lighter oil, not thincker though.
I read several reviews where they took an engine mounted on a crankshaft dyno, and ran consecutive dyno runs changing the oil and filter each time, and in a pretty well controlled environment, they had a 15HP spread between various oils.
I read a review in a motorcycle mag a couple years ago where they did something similar, and one or two oils yielded a 2-3hp gain over others. IIRC, an R1 gained HP just by using a better oil...
If anyone can locate that article, I would love a copy!
