Default 600rr or alternate fuel tank on F4i?

humor me, before i get the "just buy a 600rr" comments

i'm looking to drop weight on a track-only f4i. i see the giant steel fuel tank and wonder if there's a way to use a 600rr plastic tank and a custom made cover on the f4i. I suppose it doesn't have to be from a 600rr, but it seems easier to get one from a parted rr than it is to fab one.

initial issues to me seem to be fuel pump clearance or fuel pump compatibility b/w the two models. fabbing a CF cover will be some work, but i think i'll be able to do it with my current setup. also, i don't need 4 gals of fuel at the track. the other issue is making sure it's safe.

anybody have some insight?

it probably is for safety reasons, but it's smaller and closer to the bike's center of mass. basically, if i could move the heavy tank and the fuel inside closer to the center of mass, it'd be better than the current arrangement. i think i may have to go with a custom fabbed steel fuel cell, since i'm sure the RR's airbox arrangement is smaller or at least makes room for the tank. i guess i'll do some research on a friend's rr and come back with some findings.

Resurrecting a very old discussion, but how different are they really (in regards to mounting/fitment on a F4i)? Would it be relatively simple or major headache?

Thanks. I guess I'll stick with the F4i tank.
