i got a 520 conversion kit... i installed the front and rear sprockets and then when i went to install the chain i realized that there are about6-7 extra links. the chain is way to long? what to do and why is it like that?

your doing a 520 conversion, which means your changing both sprockets, right? the size of the sprockets (# of teeth) as well as the type of bike (length from axel to front sprocket) determine how long the chain will have to be so they sell chains in lenghts long enough for most applications (usually 120 links)

you have to cut it down to the length you need

 

i went down one in the front and up to in the rear. how do i determine where to cut it and how do i go about cutting it. thanks for your help

I did it by just pulling the chain to the closest to the normal chain tension I could get where the proper link-ends line up and then cut it and put it together there

 

I just bought the 520 to but i was ganna cut it just didnt have any tools what do i need is that a pain in the rear to cut it?

 

Grind off the rivets on the link that you want to cut off and use a center punch/hammer to push the pins out........then reinstall new pins.
