Default 2nd Fan

I recently purchased my 02 F4I and it came with a salvage title. Im uncertain as to why as the previous owner got it with the title that way already. The bike runs great and havent had any trouble with it.

However the other day when I was out riding, 80+ degree weather, I came to a light after about 10 miles of good fast riding and while sitting there the bike got up to about 230. After the light the roads were 35mph with traffic and the bike stayed over 200 for a good 8-10 miles until I cleared out of town and was able to get some air moving. Man it got hot on that bike, I kept hearing the Christmas song "Chestnuts roasting over an open fire".... Anyways
I was wondering if it was possible to put a second fan on the radiator with a toggle switch to cool it off some or is that normal for a bike on a hot day? Im just parranoid about the temp!

When Im riding it stays about 180-195 which is normal. Just city riding gets real hot.

Thanks[/align]

i wouldnt see why not clearance would be the biggest concern make sure you get a good fan as rocks and water and etc will be eating away at your new fan. As for it getting hot i dont really mind mine getting to hot but than again i like being really cold or really hot.

your temps are fine for that. if it shoots up higher than that and the fan doesn't bring it down then it's bad. i remember when i first got the bike, it was wayyy hot! my friends all thought i was crazy until they got on it too.

as for the fan, no need for a second fan, just wire the first one so that you have a switch to manually turn it on or off, or look for a temp switch that would turn on a bit sooner.

Temperatures between 175 when riding fast and 230 at stops / traffic is normal. Its recommended you switch off the engine if you need to wait at the stop lights. I suggest you don't mess with anything. But then if you are the type that likes to fiddle (like me), you could try a switch that turns on earlier as Tahoe said.

My F4i gets hot and stays that way for at least a little bit. When I ride with my buddy (has a 05 1kRR) his temps are MUCH lower than mine, especially in stop and go city type stuff. This is Central Florida, and it gets HOT.

There are a bunch of threads on this subject, do a search and maybe that will help U out.

I live in palm bay, i can vouch for the heat here. My bike (06 F4i) gets up to about 228, fan kicks on and i havent ever seen it go over that.

I live in the Pacific NW. When its cool out the bikes in the 170's. Last summer it was hotter than normal
and it ran in the 200 - 210 range quite a bit. The temp will rapidly climb when at a standstill and the fan
should go on at around 225. Then, while on, it should keep it at around that tempuntil you get moving again. Things that can go wrong: low coolant, crappy old, mostly water coolant, bad temp sensor. If
things are working correctly, the normal fan with its auto-on/off should suffice.

Yes, I was going to recommend the same thing but Tahoe beat me to it.
