2002 F4i...need some help.
I purchased a 2002 F4i not running last october. 30k miles on it. Turned out to be the ignition base diode so I replaced that and have had zero problems out of the bike...untill yesterday!
I rode the bike for 15 miles, it sat for 2 hours, I got gas, then got on the highway. Thats 3 successful starts. Im on the highway doing 70 or so, Hitting large bumps, I turned my high beam on, turned my highbeam off, I think I hit another bump and then cars started pulling away from me..bike was dead. I pop the clutch..nothing. Get to the side of the road...and now Im here....
Bike will crank easy. very fast. Headlights work, both low and high, relays click when starting. Im assuming I am getting no spark, and the fuel pump wont prime. No Fi light is on the dash.
I Hot wired the fuel pump, it still works. This is all seeming very similar to when I got the bike. I do not have a DMM right now, but I can put a test light to check for power on the 4 wires for the ignition harness and the pink wire is clearly dimmer then the 3 12v wires, with no DMM this might be a waste of time.
Im not really sure what to do anymore. I bought the 5.1v zener diode and 1kohm 1watt 5% resister and played with those hopeing to get the pump to prime, nothing.
If the kill switch isnt right wouldnt the bike not even try to crank? it will crank fine right now.
I jumped the BAS, 2 outer wires right? That had no effect.
Kickstand switch it would start in nuetral like normal but die putting it into gear right?
The no spark and no fuel pump lead me to beleive its the ignition base again, I used connectors but maybe a bump caused a connection to go bad and blow the diode? Perhaps the test light being dim on pink wire isnt enough to confirm its reducing power. Wondering if I should spend another 40$ on the ignition base, what would you guys do?

Sounds electrical. Off the top of my head, based on what you've done, I would verify the kill switch is acting properly, and check the main plugs on the wiring harness for any loose leads. Sometimes the pins like to pop out or not make proper contact 100% of the time.
I'm assuming based on you bypassing the BAS that you didn't make this mistake, but it must be plugged in for the bike to prime and start. Otherwise it'll just crank all day long. Maybe verify that you bypassed it properly, also.

thats wierd! but yes the bike wont crank with the kill switch on and yes it will die with the kickstand down in gear. and this might sound silly but id check all the connections to your wires and such, if you were going over large bumps then you could have rattled something loose. and if all is good, id try replacing it again, espically if youv had this problem before! lmk what you find out!
Well I got lucky with it yesterday and got it running.
Funny part is that I tried starting it with direct power to the fuel pump from the harness and got nothing just crank crank crank crank. Then I Went out and bought the 5.1v zener and 1kohm 1 watt 5% resister, screwed around with that, no change. I then tried to jump the pink wire from the ignition base to the ECU connector, no change.
After awhile starting flipping the key on and off, I thought both 20amp relays in the tail were clicking, putting my hand on them proved otherwise. If one of them is bad, it messes everything up, doesnt matter which one. So I put the good one where it needed to be and then jumped the fuel pump 20amp relay, fuel pump didnt do the normal whine down, it just ran, but the bike also started and ran perfect. So I ordered a new relay from honda, 35$, and it should be here end of week.
Funny thing is I was messing with the ignition base, its hardwired, so I had all wires exposed, sometimes touching, ignition/power on, messing with the pink wire, and the anti theft thing had no effect lol. How do people fry those diodes?!?!

I'm having the same issue, engine cranks but tank isn't priming... what's the "BAS" he was talking about?
I see the two relays in the back.. i hear them click.. i will need to double check to see that they both are clicking..
I was a stunt bike that i acquired that i am trying to get to run... if i can't fix ill just have to part ><

Hector, Test your pink wire with ignition on. If its 12v then the diode is bad. Then test for spark, if no spark then you get to shell out ~50$ for a new ignition base, and that should cure the issue. If your bike has had people mess with wireing id bet this is whats wrong.
I still do not understand why the bike ran with the relay jumped and not the actual fuel pump jumped, I dont care, it lives again!
This is a pic of the bike, not sure if you wanted pics of it or diagnostics...

as far as I know its got a leo vince slip on thats been cut? havent seen one like it, but its loud, and a manual cam chain tensioner. I think thats it. Bought it for 1300$...45$ part...50$ paint job. Some decals, ebay levers, and now a 35$ relay. I got offered 2k for it when it wasnt running over the weekend lol.
