Default 2001 F4I ressurection

i don't know if i did a bad thing, but i was planning on turning the key in the off position with a quickness.
i hooked up everything on the bike and that included the fuel pump, outside of the tank.
the pump didnt make any noise at all what-so-ever. after several flicks of the run/engine kill it finally turned over.
i just wanted to see if the fuel pump was in working order, you guys think i destroyed anything?
also really didn't notice any FI error messages.

update: i have voltage going to the fuel pump, which is awesome.
now that i am holding the pump in my hand i feel it pulse.
it seems to make no noise at all, i may hear a very faint whine, but
i havent used a stethoscope or anything.
my 650r fuel pump is very loud and noticeable. and its all vrrrrrrrr, untill its primed.
should i be expecting a noise such as this? my next step is to submerge it in some sort of fluid to see if it works.
and if it doesnt im thinking about putting it in the tank and acid bathing it, thoughts?

Some are louder than others. If it works, that's the important thing. Don't worry so much about the sound...just that it works.

Make sure that "some sort of liquid" is gas. I wouldn't run much else through your fuel pump or you could run into bigger issues.

holy crap! i sprayed some carb cleaner in the airbox, turned her over and damn she sounded sexy!
first inline four i've fired up, had the throttle open a bit too so i got a nice rev!
the rusty fuel pressure regulator and the pump i think has to go along with the filter.
any thoughts on aftermarket pumps and filters anyone?

i'm confused by this thread. is your bike running or not? your air box is plastic. you may want to wipe off the carb spray with a wet rag next time and dry it. if you can blow air through the fuel filter without much resistance than you dont need to replace it.

well, the whole tank was rusted even though it had fuel in it, the bike has been sitting for about 6 years.
the fuel pump and filter both have some rust built up on it. i just wanted to see if the bike had spark and sure enough it did.
i think im going to put the pump back in the tank, put the old gas back in and see if it actually primes.
With the pump out im not sure if it has a sensor that would not allow it to run without fuel.
