Default 2001 F4i Gauge cluster

I apologize if this has already been covered, but I've used the search function and I could not find anything pertaining to my year/model bike with this issue. I bought my bike last summer and the gauge cluster worked fine. Out of nowhere the speedo started cutting in and out. Now it just doesn't work. All the lights work, when I start the bike it does it's little count down and all that, but it doesn't read my speed and the odometer stopped working as well. At the end of last summer, it would only come on when I was SPEEDING...120+. I don't condone speeding...but I was trying to keep up with my friends. Anyways, I went by a shop here in town and they told me that it most likely is the cluster itself that is faulty. If that were to be the case, I can't seem to find ANY f4i cluster for sale, and if I were to find one I'm sure it would be 300+ which is ridiculous. I would really like to get this issue resolved this year, so if anyone could offer up any help besides the obvious...I'd appreciate it.

I'm going to set an appointment with them so they can look over the wiring and what not, but if anyone knows what the problem could be, I'd like to let the shop know what else to look for.

Thanks in advance!

F4i clusters are in high demand. Many riders of other bikes use the F4i cluster to "upgrade" their gauges. It does sound like a faulty cluster though, given that both the speedo and tach have **** themselves at the same time.

To me is sounds like it your speed sensor not your cluster. I would think if its your cluster it would never work not just at 120+ mph. Sometimes the sensors need to be cleaned and sometimes need to be replaced. It's a lot cheaper to buy that then a new cluster.

Damn, I just realized he said odometer not tachometer

Yeah... it is probably just the speed sensor. Good catch R Dub!

that or a loose connection at one of the harnesses (possibly in the back of the cluster)

I'll have them take a look at the speed sensor and make sure the wiring harness is good to go. Thanks guys
