RE: 2001 F4i 36,000 miles worth it???
I was actually suprised this summer when I checked the top end on a friends RR with just over 32000 miles - no valve shimming was required at all. He's had it from new and has driven it hard but never abused it, compression was bang on and it's not touching a drop of oil, we did replace the cam chain and sprockets though. I have a 01 F4i in the shop with 37000 miles to do next but I don't know the history on it, and depending on how the top end looks will determine how far into the bottom end I will dive. I've found that the best tell-tale sign of an abused unit is the wear on the top end.
The point is that you never really know what's looming in the drivetrain untill you tear it down but rest assured I feel that Honda's quality and reliability far exceeds the others...

I paid 3k for my '02 F4i. 16,000 miles, yoshimura pipe, undertail, and flush mounted signals along with new metzeler m1s and a '03 CBR 600RR rear wheel which holds a 190 tire. (BTW, I took the fairings off and blacked them out. I figured my chances of having an accident are greater since I just started riding this past May. It used to have the red/black paint and look much better. Oh well... =P)

I live in Bellingham, WA and when my bike was totalled in the El Camino Incident my insurance appraised it at $5,500 for this market. It is a 2001 with 7,500 miles. I was surprised to hear that high of an amount, but bikes are hard to find up here!
