it looks like it is in really good condition. i wouldn't pay that much for it. its been repainted, which probably means that it's been downed before. ask him if you can take it to a mechanic to do a compression test and test if the frame is straight. it's a tough call. $2500 would be a pretty good deal. i wouldnt pay $3000 though.

There is always a better bike out there. I paid 3500 for my bike and it had 3800 miles on it. With winter here now, there will be people out there willing to sell for a good price and not so many miles. Patience young jedi, good things come to those who wait. Even if you get it, unless you live in the south, you can't ride now anyways.

Depending on where you live just get the VIN off the bike and go to your local DMV office and do a search of the VIN history. In most states it will show you thesale datesand how much theywere for.
Also when buying a bike with that many miles the motor is one thing to think of but the rest of the bike has 39000 miles as well. Has the front end been rebuilt ever? Probably not, and that can be a complicated job for a DIYer not to mention one you cant screw up. Are the seals original in the forks, etc? If he did pay that much a few months ago then he paid too much and thats not your problem.

I agree with you Lime, 39K isn't that bad, but if you can find a bike with less miles for a better price. Take that one instead. Why drink water when you can have wine. There are plenty of bikes out there to choose from, I am saying don't take the first one that comes your way.
